I bought a autometer tach for my Z, has rb25 swap. I have the tach adapter along with it. Everything is hooked up and getting power but i read that the yellow/lavender wire from the dash harness is the tach signal. Well i didnt get any signal at all and then I got info from another source that its yellow/red, and still no signal. When I start my car all the needle does is jump and then back to 0 RPM. 280zwitha383 Posted September 1, 2006 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Don't take this as gospel but every tach I've ever had seems to be the green wire for the - side of the coil. ~Edit - Sorry I misread the whole post, however the same still remains, why not hook it straight up to the negative side of the coil? ZDrifter Posted September 2, 2006 Author Share Posted September 2, 2006 The RB motors have Ignitor systems so there is no coil. Thanks for the idea tho. They just have coil packs that plug onto the spark plugs. So it has to go through the ECU but the wires I have tried havent worked. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you have an RB and a autometer tach you dont need the tach signal from the ECU if you have an MSD or Autometer tach adapter (which you need in order for a tach to work). Yo need to splice into the coil pack main power (the white wire that powers all six of the individual coil packs) and run the tack adapter in between that wire anywhere. then ground the adapter unit, send the signal to the tack, and your done. I just need to open up the white wire and connect the signal wire into that but keep the original connection so it sends the signal back to the computer?
