Guest scca Posted June 25, 2001 Share Posted June 25, 2001 porsche brake if they are the "RED" ones are just brembo street calipers. cost more to say porsche on em.. are they a upgrade from wilwood/outlaws? not sure ??.... and will cost 2x - 3x as much USED.. the porsche calipers are not the REAL race brembos... i'll stick with outlaws and if i win the lottery (which i wont as i dont often buy tix) i 'll opt for the top line brembos... I've got the Outlaw calipers guys, they're NICE and I'm not sure they're all that expensive comnpared to those Porsche calipers. Is that $259 price for new ones? Guest scca Posted June 28, 2001 Share Posted June 28, 2001 porsche big red are not a normal bolt on they use bolts vertically AIR not horizontal in the mouting plane so a PITA to mount.. and as i said before these are NOT the real good brembos.. they are a cheaper one and i think they are more with the porsche name on them a-- i'd prefer it to say brembo . Scottie-GNZ Posted June 28, 2001 Share Posted June 28, 2001 SCCA, not to dispute your argument that the Porshe brakes in question are not real Brembos, but it cannot be disputed that 911s have some of the best brakes in the world. Every time I go from my 911 brakes to my Z brakes I can only wish I had them in my Z and my Z has late ZX calipers/300 ZX rotors in front and full late ZX brakes in the rear with KVR pads. Outlaw and Wilwood don't have dust seals I'm told but I've also been told the seals don't do much anyway (shrug). IMO the Outlaws are probably just as good if not better and cheaper too by about $100 a corner. Scottie - if you want better brakes look at Mike's 12+inch Outlaws I'll let you know how they work here soon enough but I fully expect that they will be as good as the brakes on my Mustang. Guest scca Posted June 29, 2001 Share Posted June 29, 2001 as usual i didnt make it "clear" the porshce reds are real brembos made by brembo for porsche. while they are better than "most" oem stuff they are not the "real" brembos that Brembo sells as off the shelf. Brembo makes a LOT of OEM stuff, cheaper castings , less material - not as stiff etc... i am no Brembo expert (a friend is) and from what i gather there are many different levels of brembos from cheap to $$ to $$$$... and BLKMGK is correct the only advantage is dust seals (if that is a advantage for the amount our cars get driven) also i dont know it the "reds" have stainless pistons or not? FYI a full seal kit for a wilwood or outlaw is only like $12 per caliper so if you changed it every 2-3 years its not gonna break the bank! and Scotty- 911's do have great brakes (for stock) but on the track they arent big enough!.. my "little 200sx" can outcorner a 911 and outbrake it. its just the HP where the 911 will pull away.. and it should. ok- enuf rambling Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
