280zx 5 speed conversion driving me nuts

i just recently converted my zxt to a 5 speed and am having trouble with the starter,i did take off the spacer plate,but did not know if that was the adapter that everyone talks about,i need some info,

i did the conversion, i used the the automatic spacer plate----->no problems for me. but you do have to have it or it will mess up the teeth on your new flywheel. wait a sec, you are talking about the plate that goes between the engine transmission? and if so do you have a gear reduction starter ( short skinny nose) or the other type (fat from front to back)

There are 3 pieces you need to take off when swapping from an auto to manual trans.

 

1. The plate just under the flexplate bolts

2. the flexplate

3. The spacer that goes around the end of the crank. It may look like it is part of the crank but it isn't.

Unrelated, but the title made me think of a joke.

I did my 81zxt with a five speed out of a junker. No problem with the starter there is a piece of tin that is different to close off the clutch housing. Not really an adapter. Starter went right in.
