Guest Mike
I have a 260 with a SBC 350. Will this oil pan fit? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/aspx/paging.yes/dept_id.1047/display_id.5083/qx/Product.htm
v80z
Yeah I got something that looks like that installed. Makes the starter a little tricky and I had to buy some aeroquip elbows for my remote oil filter run. But other than that mine works. Just dont do what I did when going from a stocker to a 7.5 qt pan

dr_hunt
What I meant was that you said changing, from what to what, stock to deep sump? Anyway, how's it working now?
Guest Mike
Hi v80z. Thanks for the input. Doc is asking what you meant by, "Just dont do what I did when going from a stocker to a 7.5 qt pan". He's asking for clarification on what not to do:)
jt1
That pan looks like it will work OK if you're using some style block hugger. It will not clear the S&S's. The kickouts make starter, oil filter, and exhaust tight, but workable. If you're going to road race, make sure the trap doors are not left turn. Guest Mike
Thanks jt1. I have block huggers but I want to have some custom SS ceramic coated full-length headers made with equal length 28-30 inch primaries. Hopefully, they can work around whatever pan I install. I won't be road racing... although that would be a BLAST!! No, this car needs too many mods for that (lots of frame reinforcement). This is just a daily driver that I'm updating to shame Mustangs and Camaros:) A 434 stroker is soon to be installed... 500HP NA plus 200HP nitrous. I'll just be driving in a straight line... well however straight I can keep it, heh, heh:flamedevi That pan looks like it will work OK if you're using some style block hugger. With a kickout pan, the tubes are going to have to be right at the T/C boxes, and then angle back in to clear the footwells, a pretty tight fit. Guest Mike
There's a young man here in San Antonio working part-time for a very highly-regarded auto shop. The owner wants to hire him full-time but he takes great care of his mechanics and wants to keep them all very busy so they make lots of $$$. This kid has many friends... all into Z-Cars. One is a custom welder and has made several custom headers and exhaust systems. They're interested in working on my car and will work on the cheap (comparatively speaking). Bottom line is... these guys are not only passionate about autos... they're Z-Car enthusiasts in a local club. So I expect high-grade work from them. We'll see... If you want, I'll ask them about making several sets of these headers and what their cost will be. Pass the word so I know about how many set we're needing. Perhaps this should be a new post. If there's enough interest, I'll start one. I want no third-party involvement so you'll be dealing directly with them, BTW. Mike Do you know somebody willing to do this? jt1
If you want, I'll ask them about making several sets of these headers and what their cost will be Nobody makes a good long tube header for V8 z cars. The S&S's, which I've got on my car, are a barely workable solution with several goofy features, and they're the only game in town. Once you start outrunning the capabilities of block huggers, the exhaust is the most problematic part of a V8 Z. If you want to check with those fellows and then start a new thread, I bet you'll get a good bit of interest. I would sure be interested in a set. A year or so ago, we tried to get S&S to make a set for V8 Z's, and a good many people commited to buy them, but S&S wouldn't cooperate. Guest Mike
No problem jt1. I'll do that. There are just a few issues I'm concerned about: (1) these will specifically fit a 260 (mine) and I'm not yet sure if it's an early early or late model, (2) I don't know if it makes any difference regarding 240/260/280/zx, etc., (3) there may be manufacturing anomolies from car-to-car that make a half inch difference here or there a problem... or anomolies specific to MY car. ANYBODY KNOW THE ANSWERS TO ABOVE ISSUES??? Nobody makes a good long tube header for V8 z cars. jt1
1. Early or late doesn't matter. 2. 240/260/280 will be the same, zx completely different. 3. There are a ton of variables. Fer instance: Tube size & length and collector size Angle plug/straight plug. square port/d port. JTR/MSA/Scarab engine mounting position Stock bellhousing/scattershield/auto Kickout oil pan mini starter or stock starter Oil filter Clutch slave cylinder Check out this thread http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=97989&highlight=S%26S and this one http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=98544&highlight=S%26S John
