rchrd989 Posted October 16, 2006 Share Posted October 16, 2006 So recently I purchased a L28 block that supposevly was rebuilt 40K miles ago. I was working on it today and I had it on the engine stand upside down to take off the oil pan, I got distracted last night and left it upside down all night. Today I take off the oil pan and turn it on its side (still on stand) to drain some excess oil from under the crank and I notice in the cylinders there is a small amount of oil seeping past the pistons. I come back about half an hour later and there is more, Should I be worried. Do I need to replace the rings or is this normal? roger.svoboda Posted October 16, 2006 Share Posted October 16, 2006 rings don't seal perfectly. They are designed to hold high pressures for short periods of time. If you were to fill the cylinder with oil you would notice the level dropping slowly over time. Why are you working on the block with oil in the crankcase?
