oil seepage

So recently I purchased a L28 block that supposevly was rebuilt 40K miles ago. I was working on it today and I had it on the engine stand upside down to take off the oil pan, I got distracted last night and left it upside down all night. Today I take off the oil pan and turn it on its side (still on stand) to drain some excess oil from under the crank and I notice in the cylinders there is a small amount of oil seeping past the pistons. I come back about half an hour later and there is more, Should I be worried. Do I need to replace the rings or is this normal?

rings don't seal perfectly. They are designed to hold high pressures for short periods of time. If you were to fill the cylinder with oil you would notice the level dropping slowly over time. Why are you working on the block with oil in the crankcase?

Its just a small amount. I had drained the oil and then took off the pan, so and oil that hadnt drained completly is what is seeping past the rings.

The rings use cylinder pressure to help them seal during running conditions.

Ok thats what I was hopeing for, So you all think Ill be ok to not replace the rings, the pistons dont show any marks from oil burning such as a white ring around the piston.
