i have a little idea i want to attempt on one of my zx parts cars.. ive seen the JC kits for the 240z that allow the whole front hood, fenders and all swing fwd. but the suspention i have not seen, im assuming its going to upper and lower control arms so.. i need to figure out the best possible way to re work the suspention so it has no wheel wells.. i was thinking of making some of the front end tube frame but dont think it will be strong unless the whole car is that way.. well, any ideas would be great.. i got some great ideas underway for a front clip on the 280zx as well as a few other neat items.. thanks.

I don't believe that a tilt front end necessarily MUST use a different suspension. The stock suspension up front will work fine with a tilt front clip. From my very limited viewpoint on this is 2 concerns: The bodywork behind the front wheels curve inward, and will have some interference with the unibody as it is raised and lowered into place (sectionalizing this will eliminate this problem) and the second problem is location of the hinges for this. They will need to be very forward and very low (but this will depend on the type of frontend modifications you will have (like a front dam, etc.)

I agree with Terry, its not a pre-requisite to have no fenderwells under a tilt front end. If your serious about removing them and adding a tube front clip, I'd do something like this to save work:

This particular one is from jegs and uses vega/monza suspension components and a pinto rack.

You may want to consider if you do something like this, you may want to put some aluminum inner fenders even if they're just simple flat sheets running from the frame rail up to the top of the inside of the fender. Just to keep the crap from the front tires off the engine bay.

Good luck,
