piston
i was wondering if anyone knows if i can use the 84-96 vette aluminum driveshaft for my swap? auto or manual different? im running the t56 from a 95 firbird and was wondering if it has the same splines? my differential is a r200. how many inches are you guys shortening your shafts too with the t56 r200 combo? the shaft itself looks very short, maybe 24" from ujoint to ujoint from the looks? let me know cause ill rather use it if it works since i can get an aluminum one for way cheaper and it already has the 1310 ujoints the jtr diff flange uses. Mike kZ
You can use that aluminum driveshaft, but you will still have to bring it to driveshaft place. It will probably have to be shortened a little and a new end to fit the 200 diff. The tranny splines may be the same, but I'm not sure. I think most driveshafts are around 18" for a T56 V8 car. piston
so i would have to change the end on the shaft to make it work? as in changing it to use a differnt u joint? the joint on the shaft from the 84-96 vette uses the same u joint as the jtr flange (1310). im just curiouse if the yolk will go in is my main concern. and will 24inch be enough to still be able to shorten cause i dont want to get a shaft to find out i need to extend it instead of shorting it. Mike kZ
If the vette uses the same u-joint then that end could be re-used. You'll have to try the yoke in your tranny to see if it fits. Once the engine/tranny and diff are in place, then talk to a driveshaft place and see how they want you to measure ( every place has it's own way) If it's around 18" they should be able to shorten it. You can't add to a driveshaft, they would just replace that piece to the right length.
Mikelly
What I did was get a driveshaft yoke from a T400 tranny, which I'll be selling here shortly since I don't need it anymore, and take measurements (*came out to 19.25 inches I believe) and have a shaft made up with the JTR adapter (Which I'll also be selling shortly since I'm using the Q45 differential.) I'd got to any driveshaft shop and tell them you want to have yours made out of aluminum with the parts I describe above. Mike
piston
ill just grab the vette shaft and test fit the yolk. if it fits, im good to go, not need to replace anything just short and balance. the price i paid for the camaro shaft was 100.00. the vette is only 30.00. why buy i long shaft when i can work with 27inch of shaft!
