JDMFairladyZX
Sup guys been a long while since I was last on here and sadly the Zs still stock n slow(and I still got the same stupid SN). Ive finally gotten a Daily beater so now my Z sits by the house waiting to get attention. So before I get flamed I have been searching for about a good year now and have decided my budget only allows me to run a L28E boosted. Now Im 18 yrs old and starting college and extremely low on funds and jobless but I want to do this nonetheless:icon45: So Im gonna be needing you guys help and im gonna be asking alot of questions so I can learn. SO should I find turbo components and boost my NA L28E or find a complete Turbo motor and swap it all in, Ive check all the local yards for a L28ET and there weren any, if anyones got one for sale let me know please! Anyway thats my plea for help and advice so I can finally one day say " I have a turbo Datsun". BTW Ive noticed no one on here really does anything with the 280zx:( Any reason for that? Beside them being heavier? Thanks in advance
badjuju
I have an 81 280zx turbo that I put megasquirt in, that's something. "no one really does anything with the zx" phh. I love my zx. Buy an l28et. If you cant find one right off the bat, wait. It will be loads cheaper and less of a pain in the ass if you just buy the whole setup and swap it in. If you're looking to do ms in the future, don't get an l28et from an 81.
JDMFairladyZX
Why not the '81? I was warned of the '83 and their hydralic lifters but never of the '81? I was also wondering if its worth the hassle of trying to boost my NA motor? It has 190k miles on it and still runs hard... Oh and i plan on going MS:mrgreen: PS I love my S130 too! Just got the rust off and got her repainted! Looks as good as any S30 to me! The pic in my sig is 6months old! Im having problems getting a new pic up... badjuju
Not the 81 because of the triggering system. It's optical rather than whatever the hell the other engines use, and it's just about useless for megasquirt.
JDMFairladyZX
Wow i didnt even know about that, well then Im gonna start calling up some local yards again see if I can find a complete motor, most of teh ones i found werent complete but usually missing manifolds and turbos:(
NKC_280z
It is a way better idea to find a whole 280zxt instead of building your N/A for boost. I picked up a 83 280zxt for $700.00 on ebay and it ran when I bought it. I ripped it out, rebuilt it and now I am in the process of putting into my 78. There is ALOT of information on this forum that will step by step walk you through the swap (wiring and everything). I am also a student and have no money and buying a whole zxt parts car is the way to go. Everything you are going to need will be on the car. Also if something else breaks like the slave cylinder or you need a new R200 the part might be the same on the zxt. If you go for boost on the N/A you might run into something that you need but can't find in a junkyard and Nissan doesn't sell anymore. If you are not much of a fabricator then you will be spending more money and have a headache in the process. Just be patient and look for a cheap zxt on www.ebay.com, www.craigslist.com, local newspaper ads, and local junkyards. You would be suprised how fast you can find one if you dig around a bit.
