g686
hi, i have a 82' 280zx turbo motor with a z31 ecu and maf. I installed the z31 components about a month ago and since i installed them my car wont rev past 3500-4000 on boost. When its idling it will rev with no problem at all? I installed a walbro 255lph to see if it was a volume problem and that didn't help at all. I was wondering if there was something i did wrong when i installed the z31 ecu/maf, or any other suggestions on what i could try next. THANKS
zguy36
it's impossible to give you an answer without more information. Check your timing, check your air/fuel ratio. You'll most likely see a huge problem with one. When you find that, you can go from there.

2+2 turrrbo
on the z31's if your AFM is disconected/broken , the ECU wont let the engine rev past 4k rpms so it doesnt blow up , it's a safety mechanism thing . just a thought.
g686
if the maf wasn't connected would the engine run right at all? Would it rev at all?
GrommitZ
MAF problems usually limit revs to 2 to 3k. Test what happens after disconnecting yours. After trying many things, my 4k rev problem turned out the be the distributor. There's a resin that covers up the CAS circuits which melted to one side, exposing the circuits the the spark of the rotor. See if your circuits are exposed underneath the CAS wheel. I believe I've heard that you can replace the 280ZXT CAS with the 300ZXT CAS with a little modification. If not you can try recovering the circuits with some kind of insulator. g686
Hi, i was also wondering do ppl have troubles with the clips on the z31 ecu like the 280zx clips? Would it be worth my while to clean the clips?
