  1. ahh ok so you worked at the old german guys shop , that was on 129th ct. and the one i am talking about (which is owned by a little colombian dude that used to work with hans too) is on 129th st. i have heard alot of stories about that german guy and the guy i worked for learned almost everything he knows from him , also how to be an ass . i too got a little bottle of red paint and wasnt supposed to use impact guns but still did.. and where that shop was at is now an evo/sti dyno shop btw..
  2. european auto center , on 129th st . the z shop closed downm years ago so this must have been a long time ago . a tech at european was a washer kid at the z shop his name is tony, hes a friend of mine ....
  3. yeah but currently out of the country , i had john weld my gutted plenum for my vg , i used to work at a porsche shop down the street and live right near there .. john is great and very talented to boot.
  4. did you by any chance have john at mitchells welding do some welding for you? i remember seeing a manifold like yours for a vq in his shop almost a year ago.
  5. z31performance.com for all of your z31 needs ...
  6. that has been used in mercedes benz's for over 7 years now ,they are pretty small superchargers on the c230's
  7. from my understanding , you give them the pressure plate/ flywheel bolted up as it will bolt up to the car , you don't give them the clutch disk because since it always spins when disengaged it doesnt matter ... i have a fidanza flywheel and stg5 clutch for my z31 , i was just going to toss it in ,but from stuff i have been reading lately ,i now plan spending the extra cash and get it balanced
  8. do you guys send the flywheel/pressure plate assy. out to balancing? . i was under the impression that all aftermarket flywheels are not balanced from the factory unless its specified ....
  9. from what i understand , rb20's are garbage compared to the 25/26's that is why i suggested you would splurge for rb25 .
  10. if you are dead set on either one of those two then id say RB for sure ... and i don't even own any of those,im actually a vg fan ,so its not that biased ....
  11. pretty sweet! , you should migrate to z31performance.com thats where most of us z31 owners are at ....
  12. turbo it! .. z31performance.com redz31.com z31.com its real simple and you won't be dissapointed ....
  13. i have a vg30e apart in my garage right now and i can guarantee you it has no sleeve . i can see somebody sleeving an aluminum block to keep theyre engine in one piece but i have never heard of anybody sleeving a vg maybe a vq but not a vg visit z31performance.com or read vg30et.com to learn more about the SOHC engines.
  14. vg's are iron block engines = no sleeves . you may be able to get a 91mm bore but 93 mm is pushing it .
  15. z31performance.com newb's unite!!!
  16. if your AFM was bad ,your car would not rev over 3k (atleast this is what happens when it is disconected) the car idles fine right??? take this to z31performance.com , they will definetly get you going over there . no offense to all hybrid'ers i love hybridz.org because of all the know-how , but this is not the best site for z31-specific information.
  17. the sound deadening , evaporator and other stuff behind the dash.several things in the engine bay . you can easily shave 200lbs from a stock z31. get creative...
  18. actually a 2 seat z31 will weigh around 3000lbs stock (2+2 is around 3200), you can easily get it down to 2700 if you strip it out ...
  19. i'm not sure which are the best brand of pistons nor do i think it should be a factor , considering you will be blowing up other stuff if you do change out the pistons (something else like the headgaskets will become the weakest link ) the stock rods are forged and they are said to be good for about 7500rpms, but the wrist pin bushing for the z32 pistons are slightly bigger than on the z31's. also considering you have a non-w block (pre 87) you have pressed in pins wich are even smaller in diameter compared to the w block floating pins. this is why getting either beefy z32 stock rods or aftermarket rods would be necessary . nobody makes an off the shelf piston for z31 rods so if you want to keep your stock rods , you will have to get customs pistons made. (read the sites!) an aftermarket cam would be worth it if you did some head work, at a certain point the tiny ports on vg heads become an air restriction , you can easily get 10-15% better flow from a simple street port job ...(more on the site!) there's three different trannys in the z31 , the weakest is supposed to be the T5 and the its followed by the fs5w71c which is the same transmission as in the 240sx and there's plenty of people dumpng clutches and drifting with those in their 240's , they are suppossed to be able to hold a good amount of power (something like 400whp) as long as you don't abuse it too much. the strongest is the fs5r30A which has the same internals as the z32tt tranny its the strongest and your best bet . with a romulator /nistune you will be able to control everything , practically its you are able to change every parameter to the tune of your engine ,its pretty complicated stuff to learn and get right , you can easily blow up your engine if you don't know what you are doing or have a way to log what your engine is doing at a certain point in the run , i would leave this to a professional or somebody that knows about this stuff. its practically like hacking into your ecu and putting down new parameters , you can setup everything from tuning for bigger injectors or changing the parameters for say a z32 AFM .and yes you can raise your rev limiter and take off your speed governor... depending on what t3/t4 you have you may be able to do 400hp , the t3 turbine will most likely start choking up . what you should really do is get a realistic power goal and start building/planning , if youre only shooting for 400whp you may not have to touch the engine . there are people that have done it on completely stock blocks. and you should really start reading those links i posted , most modifications done to these engines have been documented and should give you a great idea what to do and buy for your car, power goals .... again.. az-zbum.com for factory stuff like different trannys , wheels ,etc. redz31.com (site) z31performance.com (forum) for anything z31 related. and z31.com for archives and other modifications.... start reading!!
  20. z31performance.com has all of the info youre looking for also good reads are az-zbum.com(lots off info, not much on modifying),redz31.com(check out the turbo FAQ and his one off products *hint adjustable cam gears..) and lastly z31.com . get ready for a LONG night of reading... welcome to the make your z31 faster than stock club... ohh for some clues... theres three different trannies... for ecu tuning = NIStune or a romulator.... you can use off the shelf z32 pistons if you use z32 rods (yes they fit fine) you should probably change your valvesprings if you go with an aftermarket cam .. if you do all of the above your "restriction" for power will become your turbo and the ports on your stock heads (nothing that can't be fixed with money) the stock pistons are the weak link on the engine but still strong enough for 400whp on a good tune.
  21. on the z31's if your AFM is disconected/broken , the ECU wont let the engine rev past 4k rpms so it doesnt blow up , it's a safety mechanism thing . just a thought.
  22. lol!!! redz31.com scroll till you see the ad for the motor and trans mount ... if you want to know about the diff mount and aluminum tranny crossmember i suggest you email him .. btw hes jason84na-t on this forum lol
  23. i thought it was an anti-surge housing??? anyway , the h1c does look smaller than the hy35 but atleast the turbine housing a/r looks huge compared to the one on my hy35w
  24. well i just looked at that supra site and i must say i am a bit impressed i didnt give them that much credit , but still i bet the high number guys have really bad spooling , and isnt the 7mgte whatever something like a 2.5 liter? , the vg with the extra displacement should make it a better candidate for a big turbo. another thing is that the electramotive car that ran imsa back in the 90's used vg blocks , totally works head and everything and they were running over 900 hp out of rthose things revving to 9000rpms in endurance races , its true that in the later years they ran aluminum blocks , and alot of the stuff in those motor ware one off masterpieces , but i havent heard of any race team running 7mgte's .. overall i think pound for pound the vg is a better contender. for instance , the best headgasket for a vg is the stocker or a copper one (we have no other choice) that would need the block to be o-ringed, the stock headgaskets have been known to hold up 30psi of boost , why do these supra motors headgaskets suck so bad???. you can make more power for less , and dont have to do much stuff to the bottom end to make a huge amount of power , theres not that much aftermarket so theres no big brand expensive crap to buy and waste money on . there has been alot of inovation with the z31 lately and people making theyre own parts and mass producing them because most are no longer available , i myself plan to make just about 400whp with a couple of bolt-ons and enjoy driving the crap out of the car with very little turbo lag thanks to a holset turbo and some bosch injectors, some pretty porting and a gutted intake plenum... there isnt great feedback fior z31's on this site , i mostly lurk around looking at some of you guys cool s30 with rb's and stuff , but if you go to any z31 specific site(except for zcar.com) you will see that the information to make beasts out of these vg's is out there...
  25. the vg is a great motor , with a dyi port job on the heads and a decent sized turbo , you can make 400whp and rev it to 7k rps all day long , this with a stock block and just a mild porting on the heads , stock cooling, ignition, just about everything else stock except for fuel supllement ,an intercooler and a decent turbo ... you leave everything else stock and you can do this for years ... jason84na2t which is registered in here is making over 400rwhp on 15.8 psi (if you want to learn more about his car go to his website redz31.com) and there is people making over 600 rwhp , i dont know how many people with supra can say that and frankly the older supras are uglier....
