Viper Brakes!

Recommended Posts

Uuuuhhhh, the Viper brakes are not made by Brembo. They are made by AP. Now, since Brembo bought AP a little while ago, someone might argue that, but they are manufactured by AP as an OEM part for Dodge (FYI... Dodge engineers spec'd the part, not AP or Brembo). AP also manufactures OEM parts for other, more mundane, vehicles.

EMI Racing can do a complete REAL Brembo brake kit for early Zs (and Vipers and Honda S2000s, and BMW M3s, ...) if anyone is interested. Call Erik at (714) 713-9096 and have lots of money ready. Here's a shot of Brembos going on a Honda S2K:

"These look bitchin!!!....will they work without too much fabbing?"

Comes down to rotor diameter/thickness and caliper mounting arrangement. Aftermarket Viper kits I've seen ranged from 12.7" to 15" rotors but I don't know what stock rotor thickness or diameter is for those calipers shown. By eye I'm just guessing those rotors are b/t 1-1.2" thick for which my own Brembo's might suit up fine at 13" diameter. The Viper's 6x114.3 would be a meass to redrill so different rotors would be needed. As well those mounting ears are quite close to the pads, I assume they're tapped bosses, if not that's an extra degree of work required as well.

PS those pads just don't 'look' that large, be curious to know their dimensions.

PSS be ready to open up your wallet for any complete brembo setup with their calipers & 2pc floating rotors (mike's etc is solid mounted 2 pc rotors). Knowing Brembo owns AP explains AP pricing icon_eek.gif . True hardcore damned rigid calipers with inner and outer wiper seals, 2-3x's+ as much in cost as the wilwoods etc.

read the description it said CALIPERS only not the rotors too....

i saw them last nite...

and Ross REAL brembos are a LOT more than 2-3x the wilwood or outlaw price......

more like 5x more .

floater rotors i can do easily just add about $300 to the price. i think the rotors themselves are $75 more ea and the floater bolts are $5 ea approx. and a bit more machining on the hats but not really a big deal to do.

wonder what that S2 upgrade was but guessing $3K just for the fronts.....

BTW those sure look like coleman rotors!

Brembo makes various stages or levels of braking components. Their high performance street stuff is called "High Performance Sport" and "GT." These components (calipers, rotors, etc.) are built to a lower price point than the Brambo "Racing" components. The Sport and GT stuff is still very good, just cheaper than what's pictures above.

FYI... the Brembo Racing calipers, machined aluminum/anodized hats, full floating rotors, hardware, brakes lines, aluminum caliper brackets, line brackets, pads, etc. for just the front of the S2000 is $2,500.00. A similar setup for the front of the 240Z would probably cost... $2,500.00!

I got them today.

I supposed Viper caliper is brembo by its shape.

Actually, they have casted brembo logo. But as you stated, they are low performance icon_smile.gif I guess 2000 Cobra R has similar calipers.

The dimentions:

width 6.1

length 10

mounting point width 3.9, holes have no threads

pistons 1.45/1.35

rotor thicknes 1.2, may be

I asked the seller the rotor dimentions, but rotors were sold before measuring by micrometer. Diameter is roughly 13.

I am surprized the pistons are so small. The dimentions may not be sufficient for such heavy cars, but enough for my 240z icon_wink.gif

Kazu
