Owen
On my 73 240Z, there is a small bolt which hold the spindle of the control arm in place. How important is this bolt, as long as the spindle is bolted on at both ends, why should it matter if the spindle itself rotates? Also, I'm so stupid, I just found out that my car has 2 right-side control arms. The left side is just flipped upside down! Are there any major problems in continuing to drive the car like this? Anyone have an extra rear left control arm for a 73 240Z? Thanks. Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
Guest RyalC
I'm not sure about the impact of the small bolt. My guess is that "locking" the pin in the control arm forces all rotation to the bushings and minimizes any internal wear and tear on the the control arm. This is also probably why the pins get "frozen" and are such a pain in the butt to remove. It also kind of defeats the purpose of a "pin" in a rotational device. Don't worry about the control arms. You have the right parts. I don't know if its an example of engineering a simple design or accounting frugality but both sides use the same control arm - one is just flipped. It does make keeping spares a little simpler
Owen
Thanks, I was shocked at first when I saw that the control arm was flipped over! Whew! I guess I will try and put the locking pin back in but won't sweat over it too much if i can't Owen ------------------ http://www.homestead.com/s30z/index.html
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Anyone got a PN for this 'pin' that locks the rear control arm 'spindle' (meaning main long bolt that control arms rotates on)...customer needs this pin and I'd like to order it ASAP, thanks! I looked at www.carfiche.com but couldn't pick it out from their fiche. If someone does perhaps they could post the pick here? PS does it have a nut on the end or is it just a single bolt? Got a PN? Is it just a pin, or other hardware with it(ie. washer/nut...). Thanks. Oh yeah, what's typical cost on them?
