VinhZXT
Guys, I am picking up an LS1 motor I just won off ebay. The motor doesn't have the transmission so I can't do the compression test. What are other things I can do to check to see if the motor is healthy? I am going to ask the seller to give me some kinda warranty on the motor. If not I will have to find a tranny to hook up to the motor so I can do a compression test. Thanks for any tips. Vinh Edit: Wait a minute. The LS1 starter doesn't bolt to the tranny. It bolts to the engine. Heck I will bring a compression tester, starter and a battery along. What is the compression readings on a healthy LS1 motor? Anyone?

SSflyer
See if the seller has any service records for oil changes and such. I'd also look for weepy gaskets, permatex residue, rounded off bolt tops, and maybe for oil coating in the intake. How many miles does the engine have on it?
gexgexgexgex
Well you may already know these already, oh well Check the spark plugs, they will tell you the most about the motor, they should be brownish, uniform, should not smell like oil or look like it has oil. Check all of the rubber hoses, like smog stuff, make sure there are no cracks, make sure they do not look like they have been removed and then put back on. Check all of the electrical conections. Just like the hoses make sure there are no cracks. Open the throttle body up and stick something in there like your hand, and see what comes out. Hopefully nothing out of the norm. if you can, take the oilpan off. See whats inside. Use your "gut" it will be your best bet.

LS1 240Z
if an LS1 is hurt, you will probably know it. the motors dont come appart very often, and if they do they chuck a rod or spin a bearing.. the only time you would need to do a compression check is to see if its got a blown headgasket (very minor problem) or the freak case that it has a cracked liner. stock power would not crack a liner though. VinhZXT
Just an update. The whole thing was a scam but I wasn't that stupid to fall for it. My wife contacted Ebay and got that guy's home number. She called the guy and he acted like he doesn't know anything. I told my wife to ask him if he is selling an engine or not and he said no and we just hung up. No need to waste more time on stupid people.
