DavyZ
Hi All, Since I will be buying a 240Z this year, many cars I have run across have the Toyota brake upgrade (seems to be getting rather common) and I was wondering if any of you know if there are performance pads available for the vented Toyota 4x4 brakes???? Anyone know what compounds are available and what a price range would be? Thanks, guys! Davy
fl327
happy to hear it davy its about time! you coulda called me up about this one, you can use TRD racing pads, they are carbon metallic pads, i went for the cheap route and use metal master pads, kragen ya know did you get a z? fl327
oh the pads i run cost me 14.00, probably about double that retail cost for metal master, the TRD pads from the dealership are abotu 42.
DavyZ
Thanks for the reply. What I'm thinking is that there are the different compounds that are represented by "colors" (green, red, etc compounds). Perhaps Kragen is an answer for the street, but I'm wondering about the racetrack! The Z will visit the track when I get the chance... fl327
those carbon metallics should work fine.
Guest scca
just use metalmasters, anything more will just add more heat, if its the solid rotor toyota conversion its a waste of pad. and the vented one will overheat with metalmasters on the track.. need better brake fluid then. street use wont make a difference. PaulR
I'm running KVR carbon/metallics (KVR Web Page) on my Toyota calipers w/ 300ZX vented rotors on my 240Z. They work good when cold and showed no signs of fading during hard use at the track (Seattle International Raceway). A good pad for street and occasional track use IMHO. DavyZ
Thanks for the replies so far--I'm getting a good feel for what I need; I certainly don't want to melt anything at the track! Davy
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Paul, I love the KVR stuff as well. One racing customer wanted to try them for track and I rec'd against it but for $40 he wanted to try...he melted them right thru in some hardcore wheel to wheel training. KVR's have worked great for me and my 13" setup for street and track and is my mainstay pad going out with the rear brake brackets Mike and I finally now have:) I've heard a Porterfield R4S compound might be available via word of email etc, but not something I knew for sure. For casual track use I'm sure most are fine, I think Davy's talking once you're getting in the groove and going more hardcore on the track if a HAWK or Porterfield option is available. I have no idea other than the R4S word of email etc, not a caliper I'm overly familiar with.
