Ok, since the very first time I visited this forum, I began my front brake upgrade based upon the tutorial on this page written by Mike kelly. I used all followed your directions, but I basically got screwed by the salvage yard. I wanted the V6 4x4 calipers, but instead I ended up with 78 calipers of a Landcruiser. They bolt on and from my measurements are exactly the same as the 88 V6 Calipers except the pad size. They are stamped s12 but there is no W. But since these are from a Landcruiser, they are a lot wider than the normal s12's. I measured everything up and To me these calipers are the same. So I turned my 300zx rotors and made spacers 1/2 inch. Problem was it seemed almost 1/10 of an inch too large. THe other problem was I made four different spacers, almost like 1/2 washers out of steel and they were not as accurate which caused the rotor to rub when it went around. My question is has anyone ever used these calipers and is are you sure it needs to be 1/2 inch spacer? THis conversion is taking a lot longer than I expected and is holding up the 427 sbc conversion that I have waiting. It kind of makes my wish I had spent a little bit more and bought a kit. But water under the bridge. ANy help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Or if anyone has any spacers that they dont need any more, i would be willing to buy them from you.

thanks for all your help and sorry for the discombobulated post.

none of the spacers are 1/2" AND you cant use washers unless you use a digital guage to chek them as every washer is different thickness up to 20 thou......even in the same box

my spacers are bigger than 1/2"

What I used was 1/2 inch billet wheel spacers on my late 74Z with Wilwood caliper shims which are properly mic'ed washers. They are the exact same thickness and you can get them at ANY race parts supplier. Now, since coming to this site, I have learned that there is a difference in hubs from early Zs to the later models. Mike/SCCA can better describe how this effects the offset of the brake hat, but that is what I used and it WAS 1/2 inch thick spacer and NOT a very thick shim on the caliper to align it.

Sorry I didn't get this sooner, I was welding up some control arms last night!

well, I didn't use washers. I had spacers machined 1/2 inch out of round stock. One spacer went in between each bolt between the hub and the rotor.

Triple... the washers that I reference above are supposed to go in between the caliper and the caliper mount point on the strut assembly. This provides the proper shim alignment for the caliper over the rotor.

In the original article I used regular washers, which worked OK, but then I found proper Shims from Port City Racing Products and ditched the washers, as Mike Gibson referenced in his post above... they aren't all machined to the same tolerance!
