PaulR
I was wondering if any of you have recommendations on which wheel bearing grease to use on our Z's. The shop manual specifies NLGI No. 2 Lithium soap base grease. Is this adequate for the higher speeds, more weight, heavier and wider wheels and tires etc? Or, Is there something better I should consider??

Guest greimann
Look for something that has molydisulfide (moly). The grease will be black. Moly is an excellent EP additive to any lubricant. Stick with the NLGI 2 and lithium recommendation. If you happen to switch to a different thickener base, be sure to clean out the old grease first because some thickeners are incompatible with each other and will cause the thickener to separate from the oil. Modern Motorsports Ltd
Synthetic grease is a helluva bang/buck IMO. I've been using Castrol for several years now since I realized how cheap it is for how long it lasts. Very cheap bearing insurance as a few Z racers have found their front bearing life very prolonged once they switched to synthetic. I package it into all my bearing setups, yup I'm kinda fond of the stuff
Guest greimann
That's a good point Ross. Racing creates demands on wheel bearings that can generate temperatures high enough to break down a general purpose grease. The extra expense isn't really that significant. In everyday driving a good moly or synthetic will do nicely. And if you want to use Castrol, that's a great choice (considering I work for the company )! HB280ZT
Hi All, Sorry about resurrecting a very old post but it brings up a question that I have. I have been looking for a good quality wheel bearing grease to replace the Kendall Super Blu that I have used for so long and can no longer get here in VA. I have tried several other greases without much success. Here is what I have tried so far that I can remember, or still have sitting around: Valvoline Synthetic – no joy Mobil 1 Synthetic – no joy Lucas Heavy duty grease – no joy either The one that I am currently using is Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease, NLGI #2, GC/LB (GRG), however I am not pleased with it either. I packed my wheel bearings about 2 weeks ago and have about 600 mile on the car to include 120 miles of hard use at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). But now when I check the bearings most of the grease is no longer in the bearings and the grease is starting to turn black around the bearings. Oh yea the grease starts off the color and consistency of pureed bananas, just so you know! So my question is what to try now?? I have tried hand packing the grease and to use a grease gun and packing tool and they work about the same, just one is cleaner then the other. So what to try next?? Thanks for your help. Guest Mike
greimann... You work for Castrol? What about arranging a hybridz membership buy or group buy?
