datsun280zx81
To use an external wastegate what do I need to do to the turbo? Do I have to make a block off plate for the internal wastegate hole? Do I have to block off the air hole in the cold side that goes to the actuator? Where do I place the external wastegate flange? Any help would be much appreciated. CarJway
That is a great write up by Austin. Here are a few other shots to give you a few more ideas. I did not dump the wastegate exhaust gases to the atmosphere, I recurculated it back in: Shown here Here is a shot of the external wastegate flange coming off of the stock manifold here. The block off plate you speak of, you can purchese that with either a V-Band already welded on, as I did Here or just buy the plate and weld on as needed. I assume the hole you are refferring too on the compressor side is the reference port; you can reuse that, and connect that to the external waste gate. datsun280zx81
Thank you both for your replies. They will make installing this new turbo and wastegate very easy.
Shadytrixta1
Picture of my setup, used the T3 5 bolt flange adapter.Seemed a little easier.
proxlamus©
shadytrixta1's setup is nice for low boost applications.. problem comes with high boost, that wastegate outlet from the turbo is so so small, it would require some porting to open up and prevent creep. Doug71zt
I'm using the same plate style as shady with a 38mm Tial gate, holds anywhere from 8 psi to 22 psi with a 60 trim T04E compressor, Stg 3 .82 exhaust wheel. I opened up the turbine housing hole to around 1.5" Doug
