Did I get a good deal?

I just picked up a 1973 240Z (parts car) and a 1977 280Z, plus a ton of spare parts for $1000.

Full story and pics here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120431

The guy originally wanted $1500 for everything, I talked him down to $1000.

I feel like I got a pretty good deal... but I am new to Z cars, so I really don't know. What do you guys think?

Yes I think you got a good deal. Between the two cars you will be able to make one good one plus recoup some cash. I'd 86 the louvers but that's just me.

How's the rust situation? You know, floor, subframe rails, front frame rails, tail light housing, doglegs, lower fenders, rear quarters, wheel arches, battery tray...?

Yeah the louvers are going away. I actually have a spare hatch too.

There's some rust that's eaten spots through the paint in a few areas. The worst spot seems to be on the front passenger side fender between the door and the wheel well near the ground. However I did get a spare fender for replacing that. The wheel arches are rusted pretty bad, but it came with replacements for those too. Rear quarters look fine, battery tray is fine, tail light housing are fine. Haven't looked at any of the frame rails closely yet, or the dog legs. Haven't tried peeling back the carpet to inspect the floor yet (just got the cars today). From under the car, it looks fine... dirty with surface rust, that's pretty much it.

The 280Z sat in someones garage from 1991 until the guy I bought it from purchased it from that person in 2006. He changed some hoses, put new spark plugs in it, and some new belts. The engine turns over, but it doesn't start. It didn't soud like he had drained the gas and cleaned the gas tank out since buying it from where it sat for 15+ years. The electrical system works fine (all the lights work). Air comes out of the vents. The dash is cracked, the seats are ripped, and so is the shift boot, but the rest of the interior is in excellent condition.

This guy was using the 240Z for auto cross, it was gutted, and had the suspension upgraded. His son wrapped it around a telephone pole though. They told me the engine in it had been upgraded, but it was upgraded it by whoever had it before them, and they couldn't remember what had been done to it. That engine starts right up and runs strong.

The guy never even got a new title for the 280Z, the title they gave me for it has the sellers signature on it from when they bought it, and no buyers signature. It shows that the title was issued in 2001, and that their was a $3525 lien on it from a local credit union back then.
