gexgexgexgex
I just got my lt1 with a 4l60e in my 1973 240 z. I have the two motor monts bolted in, but not tight. I have already bashed the tunnel and cut off the "ears" inside the tunnel. I have put on the different tailhousing that has the tranny mont farther back. Ok with all of that out of the way, i am trying to bolt the transmission crossmember up to the floor pan but it does not fit. The two humps get in the way. Do i need to bash the floor pan/tunnel so that it will make the tunnel wider down below? Or did i screw up some where. Also what side does the larger of the two humps go on, i think it is the driver side just want to double check.

The drive train is offset in the car toward the passenger side but the transmission is centered in the tunnel. I did not use the longer tailhousing so I don't know what your issue would be. I have a 280Z, bigger tunnel, but I had to remove to most of the area that those ears mounted too on the passenger side too. I also had the beat the hell out of the passenger side of the tunnel to clear the 4L60E. Pay attention to the cooler lines area, they require some addition beating. Everything fit fine on the driver side.
getZ
I have a pre 86 sbc and 200 4r in a 72 and had to do more bashing than I wanted to. I made my own tranny mount and had to widen the tunnel for that. I also added two race mufflers underneath and had to widen for that as well. I even went as far as to cut some of the lateral supports under the seat and reweld them back. If I was to do it again, I would have just cut out most of the transmission tunnel and replaced it. It starts to distort the floor when you hammer that much. From the inside of the car it is hardly noticable, but it does get a little tight near the gas pedal.
