Ferd/289
What are y'all using for a/c evacuation. Does the cheapy HF venturi device work well? Also, I am thinking of buying a Robinair vacuum pump since I have several old cars with A/C, whats a good model for a DIY'er? Any advice will be aprreciated Ferd
cygnusx1
Take the pump off of an old refrigerator and plumb the suction side to the AC loop in the car. It is a pretty good and cheap way to evacuate the system. Let it pump for a few hours.
strotter
What Cygnus said works fine. I built one some years ago, but getting it hooked up to my manifold was a pain - and it died after a few uses. Cost was "none", though. I finally bit the bullet and bought an inexpensive single-stage pump (Mastercool model 90059) for less than $140. Much faster and quieter than a venturi pump, and pulls down to 50 microns. FYI, venturi pumps won't pull vacuum deep enough to boil out the water in the system unless unless it's quite warm outside (over 85 degrees, I think). Ferd/289
Mastercool model 90059 or something like it. I like the price better than the ones I have looked at. I will check out. But..I thought you needed a 2 stage to get to that low a micron level.
