Guest QIK 71Z
Carefully clamp the strut assembly in a vise and use large channel lock pliers to unscrew the cap at the top of the strut housing. Remove the strut cartridge. A pipe wrench will also work. The nut may be a little tough to remove if this is the first time the struts have been replaced, but you shouldn't have too much trouble. Be careful when reinstalling the cap, the threads are very fine and easy to cross-thread. Good Luck !
Guest Anonymous
.....and usually one of those gland nuts screwed into the strut housing holding the strut cartridges in place needs a little enouragement from a torch.
Miles
Once the strut is out of the car and the spring is removed using a spring compresser, how do you get the old strut cartrage out of the strut? The nut has three holes on top. Do I need to buy a special tool to unscrew the nut? Thanks Miles
