BayAreaZT
I'm changing the front rotors on my 71 240Z. I removed the 4 bolts that bolt the rotor to the hub. Am I supposed to be able to just pry the hub off the rotor? I can't seem to get it off.
dsommer
You may have to wail on it with a dead blow hammer or something else pretty stout. They do not have to be pressed out. Just bang on them in a circular pattern and they will seperate. Trust me they will. This was demonstrated to me by a brake mechanic and I felt really silly when he seperated the hub from the rotor with just 4 blows of a hammer. pparaska
IT's rusted together. Try: Penetrating oil, hot wax dripped on the parting line, lots of heat (torch) on the rotor near the parting line.
pparaska
Oh, d's right - always try the BFH first!
BayAreaZT
Thanks for the help. Should I use a big rubber mallet or should I just use a regular hammer.
pparaska
A small sledge (3 lb) would be my choice. You need to shock the thing a bit, and a rubber mallet won't do that.
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Am I supposed to be able to just pry the hub off the rotor? I can't seem to get it off. Just place the end of a prybar between the hub and rotor under the four tabs where the wheel stud heads are.....pry each of the 4 progressively (or two opposing at the same time) and it'll just pop off easily
