OlderThanMe
Did you use oil, assembly lube, or cam lube (if included?) when you put it in? OTM
jt1
With a timing gear bolted to the cam, and no lifters in the engine, you should be able to turn the cam easily with your hand, not even close to having to put a wrench on it. Check all the cam bearings for any burs or lips. Sometimes there is a small lip from installing the bearings. If so, take it back to whoever put in the cam bearings. jt
jnjdragracing
All the above is correct. Cam should spin freely to the point it wants to basical slip out. Who installed your cam bearings? I had a machine shop ( I do not use anymore ) installed some for me. I assembled the bottom end of the engine. Went to install the cam no go, tried everything. Finally took bottom end back apart, took back to the machine shop to check out with cam in hand. Come to find out they had a new guy and he installed the wrong cam bearings. From now on I always test fit the camshaft before doing anything else to the motor. Hope this helps, cam should spin freely, use plenty of assembly lube. grumpyvette
ditto, somethings wrong, it should spin freely with no lifters with minor finger applied torque only to the cam gear, stop, check, identify, verify and fix the problem before proceding further. you might want to coat the cam with assembly lube and roll it on a glass window or table to verify the cam itself is not bent, as thats a potential problem area, just because its a new cam does NOT mean its a strait core.
