First off, i know im running the risk of being "tarred and feathered" as Bob H says, and Stony, im sorry you have endured your hard ships. That being said feel free to open fire because this is not the first time I've spent all night searching the forums and i have finally decide to post seeing as i cant seem to find what i want. This is what i had in mind- my brother is in japan so im going to find out if he can send me a front clip containing the complete engine, tranny, ecu, etc for 1500 or so dollars i am thinking of puting in an 8.8 inch ford rear end-i could hold of on that if the stock rear end (its a 72) can handle about 300 horse reliably, but i dont know. I also understand that i am going to need a custom driveshaft (any ideas on what i should get preferably from a junkyard that i can have a shop modify?) I think i want to buy motor mounts from crs. in the way of a front mount intercooler i have no idea what i want. Have i missed any thing Important? Can i leave the stock ecu for now until i feel like changing it? As for guages I will probably buy an autometer setup since alot of you in here are using it. I'm going to be doing the greater part of the swap if not all of it myself so i can learn for one, and also to cut back on costs. The way i see it it shouldn't cost more than 4,000 but Im not sure. Any help on anything i havent realized would be much appreciated. thanks, hopefully, for your patience

Oh and I almost forgot. Never try and do these things on a budget. You will definitly be spending more then $4,000 on the swap. You may be spending 1500 on a motor and tranny if your lucky. Dont forget about mounts, intercooler, exhaust, things you have to replace on the motor from age like timing belt, water pump, oil pump etc. Oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, even the little stuff like that will add up on your bill. Drive shaft, intercooler piping, spark plugs, gauges, clutch. Trust me, I have more then twice into my swap as your budget says. You will be lucky if you dont run into any hard spots too. Once you get the motor running, you have to get it running correctly.

I think the experience of most people on this site may prove that the true costs will probably be 5x and as much as 10x what you are thinking if your plan is to spend $4 grand.

If you are in Indiana, wanst there just a guy on this board who broke his leg who was looking to sell his rb25 conversion at a very reasonable price - significantly less than you would end up spending to get it to the point he already has his car. Check the for sale posts for the last month or so. It may have been a 280 and not a 240.
