BobyYoo
i'm about to change my rear brake pads on a 280zx. i'm not sure how to remove the caliper, it seem that the brake line is stuck and if i remove the caliper it will break the brake line?? Also, is the piston threaded? Can i use a c-clamp to push it back in?? it seem to be seized, will it work if I use a Grinder disc removal tool to thread the piston back in? thanks
nbesheer
Okay to take the line off you want a flare nut wrench, could be kinda expensive ($18 at Sears) but it's what you need. Also the piston is threaded you have to turn it back in, I used an open pair of needle nose pliers but you can buy a tool specifically for it at kragen or other parts stores. BobyYoo
thanks for the help do you think it is possible to push back the piston without having to remove the caliper? i'm planning to use the grinder disc removal tool it looks like this i hope the piston is not seized. naviathan
Not sure that will work, but you could try it. I would recommend taking the caliper off to do it. I usually do mine with the hose attached, I just use wire and hang from the strut spring.
jvanen
The ZX brakes are a pain in my opinion to spin back, The first tme I did mine I took them off. the tool is nice pliers are ok, I used a screw driver tip wedged in the the little box and with the added leverage of the handle being out so far, I could pop them loose easier. granted, not nearly as quick as using the tool to do that though. Good luck
