Guest Tom Scala
I've just had a problem crop up out of nowhere with my brakes & it has me stumped. It feels like the power booster isn't working when going over about 35MPH. The pedal is hard and doesn't go down much. Once you're under 35 the brakes work normally. I tried shutting the engine off and it did the same thing. I also applied vacuum to the booster and it held with no leakage. First thing I replaced was the master cylinder since it seems the problem effects all 4 brakes on the car at the same time. Didn't help. Is it possible the vacuum booster can still have no air leaks but not provide the neccesary assist at higher speeds? I wouldn't think 1 frozen caliper or wheel cylinder cause this but is that possible? Hoses were replaced with braided type recently and brakes are completely bled every year or so. SleeperZ
What about the one-way valve that keeps the vacuum in the booster. When you go faster, you don't have as much manifold vacuum -- maybe it's leaking back into the manifold?
