turbobluestreak
I've heard of the toyota 4x4 upgrade but what about the rear disk breaks can I use a set of late frist gen supra brakes there look to be the same as the 4x4 trucks fronts but I need to know. Because I can get these callipers for only 15 each. I'm looking to really increase stopping power of my z and to get rid of those tinny four wheeler rear brake pads. tbs
Trevor
Supra parts - 1st gen......isn't that the early '80's? I know the 4-bolt Supra rear discs shared a nice vented rotor with the Cressida (later Lexus). Nifty thing about them is the parking brake is a miniature drum brake inside the "hat" of the rotor. It would take a lot of fabrication to convert all that to the ZX spindle and axle. Back to your front brakes. You hopefully know that The Toyota 4x4 caliper "upgrade" isn't an option on the 280ZX. After '78 the ZX front calipers are 1 piston, in-board, so the rotor offset doesn't work with 4 piston calipers. Look at Terry Oxendale's (Blueovalz) photos of BIG Supra brake parts on the front. Ask Ross Corrigan for ZX brake aftermarket parts upgrade guidance. Ross -I tried www.modern-motorsports.com a minute ago but the server was unavailable. Guest scca
you can try some brakes off a 87 300 they wont "bolt on"but are all vented and as close as you will get for cheap.. i have zx setups but doesnt sound like in your price range if your looking for $15 calipers
David K
bluestreak. our brakes in the zx are fine. you should just get new stock replacement rotors, good pads (not basic auto parts store stuff), and good fluid like Valvoline synthetic. I think you are working up the wrong alley changing the brake system.
