Administrators BRAAP Posted October 27, 2007 Administrators Share Posted October 27, 2007 Looks fine from that angle. How do they line up with each other? I.e. are all three pulleys grooves that your belt is riding in, are they all in that exact same plane with each other? The other two grooves were used for other accessories from the GM factory and that second belt also ran on the crank and water pump at the same time as well as the accessory, which could’ve been P/S, A/C, smog pump, etc.. shortyz
its out about an 1/8" i might make a tightening bolt for the alt, because using a prybar is useless and the alt always comes loose again. like the caddies have if u have ever worked on em.. shortyz
ok ive figured out the real root of this belt problem. the water pump pulley is not in line with the crank pulley. it has to be shimmed out about a 1/4". am i able to shim it out with some washers? or do i need to machine a plate? Z48LT-1
Searching for "water pump pulley spacer" on a popular mail order web site (climb that mountain's peak) produced a $6 kit: Water Pump Spacer; Water Pump Pulley Shim Kit; Incl. 0.0625/ 0.125/ 0.1875 in. Shims; Chevrolet Water Pumps. Shims one and three add up to .250, by my math... Cheers -- Gary
