Dane
So I was reading the "How to Modify" book, in the block chapter. Honsowetz was talking about deburring the inside of the crankcase to remove casting flash, casting lines, etc. It got me thinking...how much weight could you grind away from an L6 block without seriously decreasing block rigidity? Could this be a good potential source of weight reduction? Anybody ever tried this?
Tony D
It's for oil drainback, and stress riser reduction. Don't overthink it. You want a lightweight block, get an Aluminum one made...
Flexicoker
Mark Donohue tried to get his blocks for his Trans-Am Camaros acid-dipped and then re-insterted into the GM assembly line to get machined. They painted them different colors so they would know which blocks were theirs, and which ones spent what amount of time in the acid. Well... aparently there was a shift change right before their blocks went through and the new shift didn't know about them. So somewhere, someones got a pink, lightened small block Chevy.
