240z running rough

hey everyone,

I just recently bought a 240z. I'm using an l28 block from an 83' 280zx, with the original 1973 stock SU carbs. The car has headers, straight 2.5" exhaust, Fireball ignition system, and Accel supercoil, with a 5-speed tranny from a newer ZX. The distributor uses points, which I dont know a whole lot about. But when I first get in the car and start it up, it'll run perfectly, it'll pull to 5000 no problem all the way through the gears, then as soon as I come to a complete stop and start moving again, it only makes it to about 2500 rpm before breaking up and running like "BLEEP" in each gear. When I pull over and adjust the timing it runs fine through for about 5 minutes and then runs like "BLEEP". I have NGK platinum plugs in it and they're brand new so I know the plugs arent the problem, although I already burned up a set of plugs. Is it my carbs? or could it be an ignition problem?
