rich280zxt
hey everyone, I just recently bought a 240z. I'm using an l28 block from an 83' 280zx, with the original 1973 stock SU carbs. The car has headers, straight 2.5" exhaust, Fireball ignition system, and Accel supercoil, with a 5-speed tranny from a newer ZX. The distributor uses points, which I dont know a whole lot about. But when I first get in the car and start it up, it'll run perfectly, it'll pull to 5000 no problem all the way through the gears, then as soon as I come to a complete stop and start moving again, it only makes it to about 2500 rpm before breaking up and running like "BLEEP" in each gear. When I pull over and adjust the timing it runs fine through for about 5 minutes and then runs like "BLEEP". I have NGK platinum plugs in it and they're brand new so I know the plugs arent the problem, although I already burned up a set of plugs. Is it my carbs? or could it be an ignition problem? itzgoten
My friend's Z has the same set up as you do and is having similiar issues. It wont rev pass 3500 rpm. We replaced plugs, cap, rotor, wires and fuel filter. Just wondering If you fixed it and what you found.
rich280zxt
Yea I fixed that problem. Check your floats in the carb bowls. Mine were shot, got those replaced and set to the right level, also make sure your chokes aren't hung open.

Six_Shooter
Is there any information on the '73 carbs as far as adjusting or possible re-building? I've adjusted mine a tad and it's running better, but still not as nice as I'd like it to.
