Guest zliminator2
I tried to start my v8 240Z last night and its getting gas but I don't think its getting spark. I started to hook up the timing light to check to see if it was sparking and the ignition was on for about a minute or so. I then smelled something burning and noticed the high-current resistor above the coil was smoking hot. Did I burn it up? I'm pretty sure its hooked up right. Is is normal for it to get hot? www.hampleman.com/mallory.htm
Guest zliminator2
I think what happened is that when the points happen to be closed and the ign is on the resistor gets hot because there's current to the coil. Anyway, my problem now is: the car won't crank after its run for a while. I have a V8 with 11:1 CR and high torque starter, but the battery is an Optima gel-cel and I think I need a regular battery.
