Guest nate Posted November 14, 2007 Share Posted November 14, 2007 ive got a 83zx 6cyl. just replaced the fuel pump, some new hoses so i got gas. am i correct if bring num1 tdc on comp. stroke align timing marks, install distributor with rotor being positioned at one oclock [or possibly seven oclock ive heard and read both] and wires on cap starting with num1 wire in line with rotor add going counterclockwise in this order 153624 please reply with any help and tips,trying to get this car going asap as have no wheels till then Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
roger.svoboda Posted November 19, 2007 Share Posted November 19, 2007 You have too many abbreviatioins to make sense of what you are asking. When #1 cylinder is at TDC you need to look at the cam lobes to be sure they are both pointing upwards. Remember engine turns twice for camshaft once. You can get the #1 cylinder at tdc but on the exhaust stroke. There is a mark on the distributor showing where #1 is supposed to be but you need to be at tdc for power stroke (lobes up). If the distributor rotor is badly out of whack with the #1 cylinder mark then you need to drop the oil pump and index the distributor to the correct position. Use a timing light makes all the difference if you are close to tell what is happening. it is possible to get the distributor drive gear indexed one tooth either side of correct positiion.
