What are you guys using for twins?

1 fast z

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am looking to upgrade, to some more correct turbos for my Twin turbo 3.1 liter DOHC L series. I am currently running 2 stock z car T3's with a .63 ar on the hot side. I am looking for something with a t3 flange. I am looking for something that I can run 30 psi through, and will still flow enough air. Anyone have any suggestions that dont cost a ton of money. Any advice is appreciated.

Aside from the RB25/VG30 (RB25 has smaller turbine which I think would make it better suited to twin application) `T3' based turbos, and seeing as you're somewhat handy with the fabricationer, I'd keep an eye out for the IHI VF22 turbos. They have been known to pop up on ebay for ~AUD500.

Good luck,

What are you trying to do with the car? Are you going for all out power, or a more responsive setup? This is going to determine the turbos you are going to use. You say you want to run 30 psi so you can pretty much rule out using stock RB,VG or SR turbos. If your looking for something responsive than you should look into something like a pair of the smaller GT28's. Problem is, as far as I know they only come in T25 flange. You might be able to find them in T3 flange but I haven't. AFAIK the only GT28's that come in a T3 flange are the disco potatoes and they could end up being a little laggy. If lag is not so much of an issue than I would say go with the discos. Just my 2 cents.

Daily driven car, with around 750 RWHP goal, at 35 PSI, or so. 25 PSI on the street. Obviously, the less the lag the better. I can modify the flanges to accept whatever I need to, thats not a problem. Just dont want to spend a TON of money.

Viagra!!!! sorry i couldn't resist :D seen the title and bad things came to mind. I dunno about the others but i do know that if you are pushing serious power the t3 turbo from the 280zxt's wont handle the exhaust pressure and the thrust bearing will go. I had it happen to mine a few times til i could get enough cash to have the turbine housing boared out to fit a full t4 wheel.

For your power goals you will probably need something like a set of what HKS calls their gt2835's. Here is a link to a kit for a skyline.

You could call an HKS dealer and try to get the specs for the turbos and match that to something from the garrett catalog.
