oh yes (visited your site)....youve really done a lot to your car...thats gonna be really nice...ive always heard getting a t56 in there is kind of a job...but i guess you gotta do something about that tranny if youre gonna run w/the big dawgs...

...i wont ever need to do it...(i plan on about 300hp)..i kinda like the tremec tko too...it seems like a big deal also.....i just put in (had put in) a new T5 w/all new "everything" in it....and i think it'll do well enough for me (i hope)...However... i WILL have a quaife....they are $1200 or so... i spent that much on my add-on inj and boost controllers.....and hell...its gotta be better having 2 wheels pushin' than one....s

I have an 80 ZX and I am using Konig Monsoon rims. They are 17x7 but I am also using Ross C's wheel spacers so I can use the 40mm offset. I "think" the widest you can go with out coilovers or flares is a 7.5" wide wheel. I know of one member who is running those, but he is also using Ross C's wheel spacers. If you want a larger select of rims your going to have to get wheel spacers.

Heres the link to his site...

He is a VERY reputable(sp?) guy. I think the spacers are about $225 or so? Very good idea if you want aftermarket rims.

I think I have pushed the limit of wheel and tire size on the front of a ZX with a 17x7.5 and 235/45-17 tire. They just clear the strut on the inside and still fit in the wheel well on the outside. If you are considering new wheels, seriously consider the adapters mentioned above and then you have your choice of hundreds of styles of Honda wheels. The selection of 15" high performance tires is dwindling because no sports cars have 15" wheels anymore. Step up to 16 or 17 and the selection is wide open.

For the record, the turbo ZX wheels are 15x6 with a +10mm offset, not zero. 15x10 wheels will not fit without flares. If you stick with the stock wheels, 225/60-15 tires are the largest you can mount. If you are shopping for 15 inch wheels, look for a 15x7 or 7.5 with a 4" backspacing. The backspace is really the critical dimension when fitting wheels to clear the strut.

The rear wheels and tires are another story and 15x10's may very well fit with the right offset. I don't have any data on that because I want to run the same size all around so I can rotate.

....very good info guy's ..and once again thanks....

...i left an inquiry at mm and recd an automated response..so i'll prbly hear something tomorrow..i'm kinda in the middle of my drivetrain renovations and maybe i can get some modded cv's that will help accomplish this....

...the original plan was for a wide body fiberglass kit to get rid of the rusty fenders and allow for wider tires.....but i think the kit's gonna be hard to find....i'm gonna need these regardless

.....g...your car is fantastic....but man! when you get up there @ 17" it seems like the price goes through the roof for the wheels and tires...they look fantastic....but do the low profile tires (not just lowering the car)make it handle better .......s

The handling is more responsive. I don't race the car so I don't have data on lap times. The primary motivation was for the looks and the handling benefits second.

..i got an 82zx turbo w/the swastika wheels....man!....i cant find a manufacturer anywhere that makes wheels for 'em (or that has the car listed)....i know its 0 offset 4 lug and 15" ...but i'm kinda lost after that...some (only a few) give some details as far as what i've mentioned above..but also have "pcd" and "center bore" does anyone know the figures for these 2 items for the swastika wheels....i have also heard of guys running 15x10..on a stock zx...if that is possible they must be using an offset wheel ..right?...i'd like to get tire as wide as possible on my zx w/o coil overs or flares etc....anyone have any info/recommendations......i see quite a bit for "z" cars...but nothing for the "zx"...

thanks,

.......s

alright...i think i may be getting close here..so i see a wheel: 15x7 4x4 1/2 3 3/4 offset

...its 15" in diameter

... it has 4 lugs that are 4 1/2" apart? (to the outside of each lug?)

...and has an (- + ??) offset of 3 3/4

.....would this one come close to fitting?....(or is the 3 3/4 not enough for the 7)

....and what about the bearing hub in the center of the wheel....is there a spec for that?

..sorry to be so dense ..but i wanna make sure i understand......s

Better to ask questions now than to make an expensive mistake later!

15x7 = bead diametetr and width. Good

4 x 4 1/2" = 4 bolts on a 4.5" bolt circle which is the diameter of a theoretical circle through the center of the bolts. 4bolt.gif

This is OK for a Z / ZX.

3 3/4" Offset?? I think this dimension is for the backspacing. Backspacing is the distance from the mounting hub to the inside rim. 3.75" will give good clearance. Offset is the distance from the mounting hub to the centerline of the wheel.

The center bore is the clearance in the center for the bearing hub. A stock wheel has about a 2 7/8" bore.

In other words, these wheels will work for you!
