78Z/250GTO
I am planning a sbc conversion this spring using a tko tremac /w287 1st and 64 th W/ 354 rear {336 if I can find one}. Question...Tko need to be mounted W/ tilted bell or straight up. Any tunnel fit problems I should look out for?? I've been reading this site till my eyes roll back and convulsions start....afterwards....I start again.....love it...we are all crazed ..in any other world we would be drugged and put away... Mikelly
Straight up. I ended up with a McCleod unit from Summit Racing. Call their tech line and tell them what you're doing and they can set you up with the proper bellhousing/flywheel/clutch setup. I went with the TKO 600 and hope it'll do well. We're running the road race gearing and the Infinity Q45. Mike
78Z/250GTO
Thanks for the info. Did you need the ofset shifter??What type of master cylinder and slave did you use??
Mikelly
Mine came with a standard Steeda shifter that's aluminum. Works well... I'm using the Tilton 7/8th master and the Tilton Hydraulic release bearing. Mike

dsommer
Question, will the TKO trannys NOT bolt up to the T-5 bellhousing? Mike approx what $ did you spend on your TKO set up? Thanks, d
Mikelly
David, I have WAY TO MUCH invested in my setup. The tranny ran $1800. The bellhousing was another $350. The hydraulics ran about $500 total. The clutch/PP/FW probably added another $700. This project has been a financial nightmare. Mike
dsommer
Spoke with a supplier off ebay about the TKO 600 (tranny $2100) You CAN use the T-5 bellhousing (an SFI approved McLeod (sp) bell housing is an extra $300). He recomended a clutch upgrade to the Centerforce unit I would need only the clutch and pressure plate ($300). Can also use the Tilton master cylinder I've already got along with the slave, throw out bearing and pilot bearing. The input spline count remains the same (26) but the slip yoke changes to a C6 31 spline. To mate this to a GM drive shaft you use a Spicer U-joint part number 5-134X or NEAPCO 1-0134. For more info call Tom Thompson at AMP Performance 1-800-454-8387. He got me straight on the questions I had.
