Pad Springs on the S12+8 calipers

Recommended Posts

I know there are plenty of posts about these brakes, but I can't find a good enough picture to show me exactly how the springs go for the pads. My rods that go through the pads came with cotter pins. I know those go in the little holes at the end to hold them, but the 2 springs, I can't figure it out.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

That looks like the spring in the center is going to rub on the rotor. Does it?

No.

And do I need the backing plates behind the pads, or can I do with out?

It’s always a good idea to have the “shims†between the pads and the pistons. (They are not called “backing platesâ€.) The shims are there to reduce or prevent brake squeal. Also, since they are stainless steel, they reduce the amount of heat reaching the pistons which then can be passed on to the brake fluid.
