rich280zxt
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I need to get my car moved. I have a 1973 Datsun 240z with an L28 N/A I accidentally broke a prong off my starter motor. I dont really know how to describe it. The thick battery cable (+) runs from the post to the solenoid. Connected to that same solenoid is a medium, white wire that runs into the harness. The harness has a black wire coming from it. Thats the one that has a 'quick-connect' that I believe went to a prong somewhere on the starter. I can't figure out where it goes. The lights come on in the car, but when I hit the starter it doesn't click, and nothing happens.
MatMan
Barring any electrical fix, is there any way to bump-start it (do you have a downward slope handy?)?

I just tried that, it didn't work =[ I'm almost positive that wire runs to the ignition in the car.
ktm
New solenoid time. I know the prong you are describing and the wire that connects to it is a black with white stripe wire. It has a female spade connector and the connector on the solenoid is a male spade connector. You can solder a wire to the connector that broke off as a temporary fix. It's the little black wire with the red connector.
MatMan
OK, I just checked my '81 ZX N/A. On the starter, is what I want to call a reduction gear. On this assembly, there are two 10mm nuts, I will call poles. The positive battery cable (Blk w/yellow stripe) is connected to the pole nearest the passenger side fender well. The pole that is nearest the block has a wire going directly to the interior of the starter. There is a connector (not mechanically fastened) on a male tab with a black wire that disappeares into a harness. The Negative battery cable is directly connected to where the starter is mounted to the transmission tunnel. Does this help? [edit] should have refreshed before i submitted, KTM is all over it, as usual!
Dragonfly
I just tried that, it didn't work =[ I'm almost positive that wire runs to the ignition in the car. It does (if by ignition you mean where you turn the key on the steering column) but only in the sense that it suplies power to the starter relay that allows the starter to engage and use the battery power (large positive cable from the battery). The wire you are concerned about has nothing to do with the car being able to start or not start by push/bump starting. You could remove the starter completely and connect the battery cable to the other wires that share the lug on the starter and still bump start the car (but that is verrryyy not recomended - only making a point). Any way as stated above it is time for a new seliniod at the least or a new starter. Dragonfly

One connects to the solenoid, the other to a prong. There's two, I think one is for the alternator, I broke the other one. So I just opened the clip for the alternator and crimped the two wires and pushed it back onto the prong and it cranks, and starts up now. Thanks everyone for your help. Sorry I'm such a newb =X
