Over my head?

Okay, here's my sitch...

I has 2 friends.

1 has a nissan Z body and frame, basically a rolling chassis. It looks like a early-mid 70s model, which as far as I know, is mechanically sound, but gutted. It has interior though, which still looks kinda nice, so it appears decently cared for.

the other has a 350 chevy small-block from a '72 El camino, with a turbo transmission. This runs, but he says it needs "the seals" replaced. This is currently inside a 1970 chevy Scottsdale, which as a whole, runs and is drivable.

Now, I've seen these done here, so I know it's possible to do a swap... Car is going for $500 and the truck (meaning engine, tranny, gear, etc...) is going for $350-400. [$850 for parts so far...]

Now, how much more is this going to cost me before I get a running car? I don't have a welder, so those custom mounts are going to be done by someone else (a "professional"). How much of that scottsdale can be transfered into the Z? Fuel pump? Wiring?

Basically, I guess I'm needing somebody to either talk me out of doing this thing or at least give me a more accurate idea of what I'm getting into.

Thanks

There is no cut and dry answer to your question. Price required to get the job done depends on several variables such as your ability scrounge, the quality of the project, and level of WOW factor you will be satisfied with, how much time you are willing to allow this project to consume, etc.

The most accurate answer you’ll get, (not knowing your annual disposable income that you are willing to throw at a project like this), is between $852.73 - $37,689.23.

Outside of that, start here with the advice given in #11 in this link. After you have done that, then #2 in that same link will help you narrow down the figures quoted above to a much narrower window.

Good luck.
