olie05
I'm trying to find the length of the front stock control arm. Anyone know it off the top of their head? also, maybe we can start a suspension dimensions thread? I've been searching hybridz and google for dimensions and I can't get a good diagram or anything. thanks
olie05
bump. Anyone have any info? I have been getting pick up points from the chassis dimension .pdf's out there, but I'm still missing a few dimensions, and i'm getting conflicting data from a few of the measurements I've come up with. blueovalz
Do you want the total overall length, or a more important centerline-to-centerline length (effective length) between pivot point? For example, the 240Z and 280Z rear control arms overall length is different due to a little more material and bracing on the 280Z arms even though the effective is the same as the 240Z arms. 74_5.0L_Z
The center to center length for the front control arms (using a tape measure) is 11.25". The rear control arms are 14.5 center to center. Be careful about the factory frame drawings. The 240Z and 260Z factory manuals had some errors. I believe the errors were corrected in the 280Z drawing. olie05
Thanks 74_5.0L_Z thats pretty much what I was looking for. Terry, You are right. The overall length is useless to me. Center to center is infinitely more important for what I'm doing.
blueovalz
I'm going to ride on this strings coat-tails and ask this question. Does anybody know where the balljoint's ball centerline is in the vertical plane on the front control arm? Where is this centerline in regards to the upper surface of the control arm? I've never dismantled a balljoint before, so I've no knowledge on where the exact pivot point is in within the casing, and in regards to how it relates to the arm, and more specifically, this location's impact in regards to the steering rod geometry and roll center. Using the visually "angle" of the control arm itself is not a very precise way to do this, but many folks resort to this method.
74_5.0L_Z
I had a ball joint that was worn, so I cut it apart while I was trying to locate my roll centers. I found that the center of the ball is approximately located along the upper surface of the webbing for the four bolt flange where it meets the spherical housing of the ball joint (right where the webbing blends into the housing). This will get you within ~1/16". To be a little more clear, I mean the most outboard point where the webbing meets the housing.
