In the nissan motors book the pt# for the 12mm carrier is 38420-RS660. The one listed for the s13 and the s14 is the same. I ordered a 38420-RS650 from MSA it is the same as part as nissan sells, in fact they ordered it from nissan motorsports and charged $120 less for it than nissan. Anyway it looks the same size as the newer z32 carrier and and older 280zx open carrier sitting on my bench with it.

I have as I said a newer style LS and on the back cover it said it was a viscous type. I took carrier out and put the ring gear from the older (83) R200 on (with two bolts to hold it) and put it in the older housing. It seemed to fit just fine. I then put the newer companion flanges in (which I have modified for U joints) and it looked like it would bolt in my 71 Z.

If you do use a new LS carrier in an old R200 housing you will need to use the companion flanges from the new carrier as they are not the same length as the old R200 shafts. Beware that the ring gear bolts on the z32 carriers are 12mm.

may be get arp to make some custom bolts with shoulders on them?this would take care of problem and make parts swapping easy.some poeple that run their cars on long trips like the 3.54 ratio .if you live in the west there is lots of wide open spaces like neveda to run your car and 4.10 dont work for that.

Paul Hansen from NZ got back to the IZCC list with the following info. $2 a pop is not cheap, but this hobby isn't either. A better solution is to see if this part is available local to you. Anybody checked with "reputable bearing suppliers" for this? I don't need them, just passing this along.

Subject: 240SX Diff fit to 240Z

To all,

Re the fitting of the 240SX (200SX) viscous diff to the 240Z.

I promised everyone that I would find out the details for the bushes that fit between the 10mm crown wheel bolts and the 12mm carrier.

The bushes are made by "Glacier" in the UK. They are called thin wall D.U. Bearings (bushes) The part no. is... MB1010DU.

The dimensions are... 10mm I/D, 12mmO/D and 10mm length. They should be available from any reputable bearing outlet. I have used

them in my set up for over 10 years with no problems.

The cost from me is... $US2.00 per bearing (you need 10 per assembly) plus airmail charges to the USA or where ever (which would be minimal). If anyone needs them they can contact me direct.

Regards

Paul
