intuitdriver
Alright I am trying to help my buddy get a tranny for his 87 300zxt with the r200 vlsd. I have a spare t5 borg from a 82zxt sitting around right now and would like to see it go into that the 300. Can you guys tell me what it is going to take to make that bolt to the motor and driveshaft, and will the driveshaft have to be modified? Sorry, im not too familiar with the 300zx drivetrain. HowlerMonkey
A few things. The 1987 300zx turbo comes with clutch type LSD and only after a specific manufacturing date. The FS5R30 tranny that comes in the later turbos is far and away superior to the T-5 in most every single way as well as being able to handle twice the Horsepower the T-5 can. So........if you really want to install this tranny, you will also need a different bellhousing (read case) for it since the V-6 does not share the same bolt pattern as the L-6. evildky
I believe the T-5's are the same aside from the bellhousing, I know the imput and output splining is the same, but if his car came with something other than the T-5 you'll have to modify the trans crossmsmber
intuitdriver
Thanks for all of your help guys. We decided that since it is a 87 with the lsd and all, that we were going to get the appropriate trans to go with the car and swap my 82 t5 for one of the z31 trans.
