DrEaM
okay i'm starting this thread to possibly save someone else the hassle of having to go through all of the trial and error of dropping transmissions, swaping out throuwout bearings and ordering unnecessary parts... the clutch not disengaging after either a trans/flywheel upgrade is fairly common BUT i'm going to talk about at least the fidanza flywheel and 280zx trans since thats what i have.. as of right now i'm running a 1976 280zt with an '81 turbo motor that used to be an auto (yes i took the spacers off the back of the block) ANYWAYS THIS IS THE INFORMATION THAT HELPED ME DURING MY SWAP.... the fidanza lightweight flywheel is physically shorter than the stock flywheel by about roughly 1/4 of an inch.. i didn't realize this until i reinstalled the turbo clutch/pressure plate i purchased... so pretty much you could bleed, adjust and swap out throwout bearings all you want and the clutch still wont disengage. to fix this problem all i did was INSTALL A LONGER SLAVE CYLINDER PIN.. i ended up using a bolt i had laying around the garage but it did end up taking a little bit pf trial and error to get the length just right, and it does require you pulling the clutch for back with either a pry bar or something similar. anyways i hope this helps someone out there doing the same thing i've done i'v been messing with this problem off and on for about a month but thats okay now b/c i can drive my car now and it feels much better
Careless
Good info. Thanks for posting. I see that a lot of times people do small mods that they completely forget about or don't document that would save people a lot of time to buy the right stuff and get the job done in one shot, even if it involves work and creativity. Sometimes Fidanza flywheels require shorter bolts for certain cars, and people are stuck with a car on the hoist, or grinding down stock bolts to make it work. This slave cylinder rod is a new one, and I'll look out for it this week with my clutch swap! Raff
