Owen
I've read the posts on installing the 280ZX? CV shafts on to the older Zs and read about the concerns of binding at full droop and full compression. My question is, how exactly do you check for this? I've spun the axles and have not felt any catching or heard any strange noises (not spinning fast enough?). Both axles turn smoothly, is that all I need to know? Thanks. pparaska
When I had the 280ZX T companion flanges, 240Z stubs, and 280ZX T CV shafts on my 240Z, there was bind with the last 1/2" of droop. It was a resistance you could feel by turning the wheel with the other wheel off the ground and the trans in nuetral. A very definite evenly spaced spot in the rotation. It happened 3 times per revolution, coinciding with the number of fingers on the spider in the CV joints. I believe it was a combination of the compressed shaft and the high angularity in the joint causing the bearing on the finger of the spider that was hitting on the end of the groove in the inner shaft joint.
