1982 280zx ***R-E-A-R---B-R-A-K-E*** brackets

Recommended Posts

Now I have searched and found that alot of members on here have quoted that the 1979-1981 280zx rear disc brakes can be used on the S30s with modifications i.e. brackets from the maxima or custom made as sold by a member up hear now. I was told by him that these will not work on 82 rear discs. My question is do they need brackets to bolt on to a 74 260z or do I have to get a pair made I have a 82 280zx turbo parts car and I would like to use the rear discs on my 74 Z I'm tired of the drums locking up. Is there another nissan car I can get brackets from? Thanks

i was trying to do this swap a while ago but once i saw how small the pads and calipers were i decided to go another route. anyway i have the reubuilt calipers off a 200sx, the brackets from the maxima, and the rotors off the 280zx which is the same as the s13 240sx rotor. i have no use for any of it so if you want i would be willing to give the parts to you for my cost (which is pretty reasonable).

the parts were only put on the car to see if everything lined up, and they did. i never bled the brakes though. tell me if your interested.

Having owned an '83ZXT since 1991, I can only ask WHY do you want to use the rear calipers that have always been a total pain....

I will use MM's 240SX caliper conversion kit on my S30 when it comes time...

Well, my answer as to why is simply because the stock Z brakes are enough for my power goals as well as most other people. I just really cant stand drum brakes and would really be happier with discs more aftermarket, cheaper and more reliable.

On another note bajaracer pm sent!

I think that most think there is a huge gain in braking power by adding the rear disc brakes. Since 80% of your braking is up front, the biggest benefit I've found from adding the rear discs is that they are much more fade resistant when running hard on track days, since the stock drums expand and pedal travel gets long & soft with stock rear brakes. So, rear pad size has very little to do with anything, as long as they have enough bite to keep proper brake bias. The best thing with the rear discs is a very solid, consistent pedal under the hardest conditions. Most street driven cars will rarely be run hard enough to really need the conversion, but they do look better than drums! :) Just my 2 cents.

Savage42: That is correct a lot of people think that the BIG BRAKE kits are badly needed when infect the stock brakes are fine. Now if you want more after market yes thats fine but just to believe that big bad brakes are needed doesnt add up.

OR as the admins here would want me to say *****S-T-O-C-K---B-R-A-K-E-S---W-I-L-L---H-A-N-D-L-E---A---S-M-A-L-L--B-L-O-C-K---L-2-8-E-T--O-R A-N-Y---O-T-H-E-R---E-N-G-I-N-E---******:icon56: I think thats clear enough.
