280zjoel
Hi everyone, I'm doing my own custom exhaust on my sr20 powered 280z, and i was told by the guy at my local welding store to use .090 thickness 3'' piping, but every time i check at the metal yard they never have .090 thickness piping only .060 or .120 thickness. If anything i would go .060 because i think .120'' might be to heavy. do you guys think .060'' would be too thin to use for exhaust piping? EMWHYR0HEN
I think .06 is still too thick IMO But, if thats all they got .06 will do. I don't know where in CA your located but check out Industrial Metal Supply. If there's one in your area you can score all types of metal. 280zjoel
thanks EMWHYR0HEN, im in Loma Linda ca and the nearest place to sell steel is Pattens Steel and they dont have that thickness in any of their shops, also i tried to order some from another shop and they said they could not get it at that thickness. thanks
Slow_Old_Car
i think .090 is overkill. every system i've built has been .060 wall and could take alot of abuse without ever being torn open.
jt1
90 is way overkill. You need something like 16 or 18 gauge. jt
johnc
3" x .063" wall welded steel tubing is kind of normal for most cars. You can save a little weight with .049" wall but its a little more expensive and can crack easier. Summit, SPD, and many other mail order places sell the tubing in 3' lengths and they also sell mandrel bends in various degrees and CLRs. 240hoke
Most of the time exhaust tubing seems to be measured in Ga, in such a case you will want 16ga... which is .065.
