ezzzzzzz
I just pulled my front wheels on the 240Z to measure offset clearances. On the stock hub, clearance to the spring perch is +5" or around 128mm. I'm installing Z31 hubs pushing that clearance out to 5.75" or 147mm. Running typical 235/40R17 tires on 17x9 0 offset wheels will provide about 4mm clearance from sidewall bulge to the spring perch. Is that enough clearance for tire flexing? The rear is not an issue as there is an additional 12mm of clearance.
naviathan
Should be fine since the sidewall flexes at the bottom of the rotation around the contact patch and not the top.

Well the bottom of the tire bulges from weight, but top and bottom pull over in the direction of force when cornering (bottom deflects more of course). I've seen tires rub the strut or spring perch with twice that clearance. I like to see the thickness of an index finger, 'bout 10-12 mm. YMMV. naviathan
Good point, I didn't consider cornering forces.
Armand
My front tires are about 2-3mm or so far away from the spring perch, and even when I'm cornering at the limits of the car they have never rubbed together.
