Miles
I have a 89 Camaro T5 WC tranny and bell housing. The bell housing tilts the tranny towards the drivers side. Will installing the T5 with the Camaro bell housing work in a 72 240Z? Has anyone done the T5 and Camaro install in a 240Z? Any special tranny mount considerations? Also, I am thinking about using the Camaro slave cylinder if I use the Camaro bell housing.
DavyZ
Miles, the tranny will work fine--in fact, JTR recommends this tranny for the manual swap. I have the same tranny waiting to go in! The mount "ears" get tweaked to fit--get the JTR manual if you don't have it already. Otherwise someone with the manual in front of them (I'm at work, sorry) can read you the main points. Good luck. DavyZ
Sorry about the email, Miles, I actually forgot you really did have this posted in the forum. Does anyone have an older copy of the JTR manual handy that goes over tweaking the "ears" of the rear T5 mount and would describe it here??? If not, I'll have to post it sometime tonight. Hang in there, Miles! Davy
Miles
Davy Thanks for the email. I spent about 2 hours going through old HybridZ posts on this subject. Didn't find anything on tweaking the rear mount of the T5 when the Camaro bell housing is used. I am assuming that using the Camaro bell housing will place the rear mount in a level position and the shift er pointing towards the driver. Question: does the shifter angle make for awkward shifting? As for the hydraulic MC and slave units I plan on using a Tilton 13/16" MC and the Camaro slave. Several old posts indicate this combo works well. I have a Corvett bell housing as well so if the Camaro BH doesn't work I'll go with Corvett as a back up. DavyZ
Miles, I apologize for putting you throught the work of finding that info... I finally did find it, but it was in the JTR Volvo V8 conversion manual...so sorry! It does not apply to the Z at all--I goofed and ran the information together. You should be fine not doing anything to the mount--it should sit level. Sorry about the confusion; my bad. Davy
