Guest Michael-Silver-280zx
Hello, I just got my first car and its a 82' 280zx and i'm in love. Its got some panel damage and rust but i'm gonna work on that and then paint it black (if i dont run out of money). I've been having trouble starting it. i've been told that it might be a faulty 'temperature sensor'... Could anybody help me understand whats wrong with my Z? Also if anybody has any tips on caring for 280zx's i would greatly appreciate any input! Regards, Michael
woldson
Since you might have a hard time even asking the right question, search for efi bible a get more familiar with the car's system. It is really an easy read.

Guest datsun 280zx turbo
Its possible that your fuel pressure regulator is leaking fuel through its vacuum line and flooding the intake manifold. Maybe a long-shot but simple to check.

roger.svoboda
Basics!!! zxt are really voltage sensitive for the ecu and electronics. First step is to put in a good battery like an interstate not some walmart $20 special. Put in new battery cables unless the ones you have appear to be in good shape. Be sure the ground strap goes to a bolt below the battery box and then to the starter. Lots of zx have had the cable clipped and then run to the starter cause it is easier to do a butcher job than the right job. Be sure the ground connection to the frame is free of corrosion and clean and tight. If you are still having trouble after that then start the process of tracking down other problems like low fuel pressue or poor spark. Cylinder head temp sensor makes them run lousy but shouldn't affect starting. Cold start injector more likely culprit. How does it run when you get it started???
