PETEW
Just like the title says I need to buy a overhead trim piece for my car but they only come in black. I was wondering if anyone painted interior pieces with any success, and what they used. I have looked at the SEM site and they have Palomino which looks close, but.......will it work? Hopefully someone has some experience with this, since no one has Datsun butterscotch interior paint. Thanks.
Mike kZ
I used SEM Napa red for my stock red interior Z. It mached perfectly, and has stayed on, and not fadded. Very good product!
WizardBlack
There is a line of product which will dye carpet and soft surfaces (like the ceiling stuff is) to a particular color. You could probably get a few different colors and blend them to get a good match.
PETEW
Thanks guys. I am just worried that matching that color is going to be near impossible. It looks like Pony (I think that's what they call it) from SEM is close. I just wonder how close. Guess I'll be a guinea pig.

Well, buttescotch is yellow with a touch of red to reach orange and then a tiny touch of black to dirty it up a smidge.
eec564
I found some rustoleum that is an almost perfect match for the tan interior of my 82 ZX. It's in a spray can, part number 7771 SAND. I think I found mine at an Ace Hardware, but any place that carries a good paint selection should stock it, or at least be able to order it. WizardBlack
Butterscotch is a bit tougher than tan, black, grey or red, though.
eec564
Take a sample in to a hardware store and have them make a custom match. It's not that expensive and you'll have the formula to make more easily. Just use an un-sun-damaged piece from a corner or take a faded piece and tweak it in their computer. It's not horrid to reduce regular paint and spray it with a cheap gun.
zpizzaman20
I took aa interior piece to the Sherman Williams automotive paint store. They had a gun that got them close and then they "played". The color is perfect. I probably have the mixture somewhere for both the early and late colors.
